Baikalsk is the southernmost and snowiest city in the Irkutsk region on the shores of Lake Baikal, with opportunities for development and growth, a key point for ensuring a growing tourist flow to Baikal. One of the key tasks for ensuring the development of urban areas, enshrined in strategic documents, is the formation of a system of connected public spaces, the unification of disparate parts of the city into a single fabric. Gagarin Microdistrict Street is one of the most important links participating in the future unification of the urban fabric.
Concept
The concept of the project combines the two sides of the identity of Baikalsk and the Gagarin microdistrict - Cosmos and Baikal, linking the beginning of the history of the city and the BPPM, rocket production and the conquest of space, translates them into design, ideological content of the territory, forms the basis of the approaches to improvement "From peaks to depths", with with the help of which the project draws attention to the local identity of the microdistrict, contextually approaches the arrangement of the environment, while maintaining the comfort and intimacy of the existing space, also makes up for the lack of informal public spaces, complementing the “formal” city center on Festivalnaya Square.
