Brief information:

A large vacant site in the centre of the designed territory was previously used as a stadium and served as a venue for city and district events, but is currently abandoned. The adjacent residential area is planned for renovation as part of the strategic master plan. Several buildings have already been vacated, and construction of a new residential complex is underway. A new community centre has been built on the territory, a section of the road has been repaired, street lighting was installed on part of the street in 2023, and a pavement has been laid along one side of Riverine Street. Bank reinforcement along the Kharlakhta River has been carried out as part of the river channel stabilisation project, with completion expected by 2026. The designed territory serves as a transit corridor between neighbourhoods: children travelling to and from schools and preschools; residents moving from the railway station to their homes; and access to key destinations such as a supermarket, a pharmacy, and a seafood shop.
Concept:

The planned space along Riverine Street lies at the heart of Baikalsk's coastal area and serves as a link in the future connecting network, as well as a key point in the strategic development of the city's natural and ecological framework. The space connects the oldest neighbourhood, Stroitel, with the city's commercial and tourist centre – Gagarin neighbourhood – while Riverine Street and the adjoining recreational area unite the population of the mountain cluster district with the coastal cluster of the Special Economic Zone, providing access to the future embankment of Lake Baikal. The main principles of the concept are built on this foundation: connectivity between neighbourhoods and access to the future embankment; formation of a natural framework; diversity of urban leisure activities; education for the younger generation; accessible environment; and development of the hospitality industry. Riverine Street is one of the first streets of the settlement, built in 1960. It also greets residents and visitors arriving in the coastal part of the city. Accordingly, a range of features is proposed within the territory to introduce both tourists and locals to the history and development of the city. The project proposes the installation of an art wall depicting the history of Baikalsk's development, a tourist information centre, and a number of information boards in the recreational coastal area (along the Kharlakhta River) of the designed space.
